FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State has been selected to host a 2007 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Regional at the Save Mart Center, the NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Committee announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Administrative Committee of the NCAA Division 1 Championships/Competition Cabinet has approved the sites.

"We are very excited about getting the NCAA women's basketball regional championships in 2007," said Randy Welniak, associate athletics director and sports supervisor for women's basketball. "Hosting this event brings great prestige and exposure to our campus, our community and our women's basketball program. I'm very pleased that the NCAA has recognized the outstanding effort of the Fresno State staff and the members of the community who stepped up when we hosted the NCAA women's basketball first and second round games in March. We are thrilled that March Madness will return to Fresno."

The Save Mart Center, which hosted its first sporting event in November 2003, experienced March Madness for the first time earlier this year as Fresno State hosted the first and second rounds of the 2005 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Arizona State and Stanford won first and second round contests to advance to the regional round.

The first and second rounds of the 2007 NCAA Championship will be conducted at eight pre-determined sites, with two teams advancing into the regional round of 16.

Ticket information will become available on www.gobulldogs.com at a later date.
