FRESNO, Calif.- Due to Hurricane Rita and the damage in the Houston area, David Carr will not be able to attend Tuesday's football game between Fresno State and the University of Toledo.

Fresno State planned to retire Carr's jersey, No. 8, during pre-game ceremonies. The jersey retirement ceremony will be postponed.

"The situation with Hurricane Rita and the devastation in our area has caused a lot of turmoil," Carr said. "We (Houston Texans) had to make different arrangements and change our practice schedule this week which, unfortunately, will not allow me to come back to Fresno at this time. My family and I sincerely appreciate Fresno State and the Fresno State community for this honor. We are very grateful and look forward to coming back to Fresno soon."

No date has been set to reschedule the event.

Fresno State (1-1) hosts Toledo (3-0) tomorrow night in a made for ESPN2 game. The Bulldog and Rockets, two of the top non-BCS programs this decade, have never met on the gridiron.

Note...: The "Win David Carr's Money" promotion, which will give eight Fresno State students an opportunity to win a $500 book voucher from the Kennel Bookstore for the spring semester will continue as planned. The promotion is made possible by a donation from Carr. Students can register at the Bookstore on campus, the Bulldog Ticket Office, the Bulldog Shop, USU information window and the University Courtyard Atrium. Deadline for registration is Monday, Sept. 26 at noon and the winners will be announced during the Fresno State-Toledo football game.
