FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman long jumper, Gary Lee, proved he is up for any challenge at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Lee, the 17th ranked long jumper, defied those rankings Wednesday, launching himself into the 12-man final. The Fresno State freshman record holder leapt 25-4 (7.72m) on his third jump of the day to take sixth place in the preliminaries. The final is scheduled to shoot off at 5:30 p.m. PST Thursday on the Drake University campus in Des Moine, Iowa.

Sharon Ayala also took the field Wednesday. The junior threw the hammer 199-5 (60.79m) to finish in 13th, just one place shy of a slot in the finals.

The final Bulldog yet to compete at the NCAA Championships, Rosario Sanchez, compete in the shot put preliminaries on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. PST.
