It is through the excellence of Fresno State's faculty that the students reap the greatest benefits. More than 80 percent of the tenured faculty hold doctoral degrees in their areas of study and have received national and international recognition. However, the ability to care about students on an individual basis is the most important characteristic of the Fresno State faculty.

Fresno State is distinguished in many ways through its various academic programs, including a survey conducted by U.S. News and World Report magazine ranking it No. 4 for best value among regional colleges and universities in the West.

The 1,410-acre campus includes a 327-acre main campus which features 46 major buildings linked by tree-lined sidewalks. Because of the beauty of its 4,000 trees of 85 different species, the campus has been officially designated an arboretum. The Fresno State campus has many new buildings, including the new music and education facilities, Leon S. Peters Business Building and the adjoining University Business Center, a $12.4 million complex completed in 1988; the Henry Madden Library, which is considered one of the best in the CSU system; and the central University Student Union, which offers modern student lounges, conference rooms, coffee shops and bowling lanes.
